It's important to understand that not all sex offenders are pedophiles but all pedophiles are sex offenders. Sexually molesting a child is a crime in the United States and perpetrators of this crime are pedophiles. Pedophiles look like anybody else you know. While most convicted pedophiles have historically been single men, women can also be pedophiles including married women in committed relationships. For the purposes of this page, we'll concentrate on those areas that pose the greatest threat.

Profile of a Pedophile

• Typically a male over 30 years old.

• Works in an environment or volunteers where kids go like schools, parks, churches, pet stores, coaching, tutoring, shopping malls, movie theaters etc.

• Usually unmarried with few friends or married but distant in the relationship.

• Often moves from job to job without good explanations. 

• Enjoys hobbies that align with kids like rock collecting, model trains, exotic snakes or model cars.

• Pedophiles often decorate a special place or room to be attractive to children.

• Pedophiles often become friends with single parents to gain access to the kids.

• Most pedophiles have a collection of pornography and like to keep souvenirs from their victims.
  
  To date, there's no cure for pedophilia and our only legal course of action is defense and prosecution after the crime has occurred. There are resources to help you protect your children.
